Not what I expected for a 3-star hotel
The shower head and toilet hose water pressure was good. But only a very little toilet paper left on the roll. The staff were overall friendly. One staff person, Ebi, spoke English very well. The AC worked fine, and I could use just the fan mode at night. They had some HBO channels, but CNN was only in Indonesian. Channel 7 was Fox news, so at least there was some English news. I asked them why they could not have the English switch to listen to CNN in English, they said they did not know. They had a cold box which is not the same as a refrigerator, but at least kept drinks semi-cool. The bed was fine.
I was very surprised because Cipta Hotel did not meet any of my expectations of what a 3-star hotel would offer. I think in Indonesia you have to minus one star from whatever is advertised. So this was advertised as a 3-star but it should be a 2-star at best. I would have given it a score of 3.0 for a 3-star hotel and a 5.0 score for a 2-star hotel. From the very start, everything just did not go right. I requested a non-smoking room, but they only had smoking rooms. The front person Ebi, who has very good English, said to come back tomorrow and see if they have a non-smoking room which I could move to. I did go back last night, but they did not. So there was no attention to detail about someone moving to a non-smoking room. No one seemed to know or care. They were just like going through the motions of saying come back tomorrow. The room was not very clean, you could see hair and small pieces of rubbish behind the room door. There were also black stains on the floor. They did come into spray the room for the smoke smell, but eventually the air freshener smell disappeared and the smoke smell returned. There were only two large towels, no smaller towels or floor towel for after taking a shower. I didn't know what was included or not, or if they forgot, but the second night there was a floor towel on the ground in the bathroom, so I concluded they forgot to put one in the room on the first night. There was no hair dryer in the room. So just the very basics. When I went to ask about some things and perhaps the staff thought I was asking too much, one staff person said, "What do you expect, this is only a 3-star hotel!" I have worked in hospitality for over 15 years and I probably would not say that no matter how bad the hotel was. The breakfast was basic, but enough. The room was very dark, only one small lamp hanging over the desk and the other two reading bed lights. There is no safety box and hair dryer in the room.
